How do you modernize old wood paneling?  Modernizing a dark wood-paneled room can transform it from heavy and dated into a bright and inviting space that combines classic and contemporary elements. If the woodwork is in good shape and a wood worth saving , we always recommend restoration rather than painting. Once you paint, it is difficult to return the wood to its original condition.  For the 2024 Pasadena Showcase House of Design , Cozy Stylish Chic took on the challenge of reimagining the 1902  English Tudor library.  The library was intact with the original architectural details, including rich walnut wood paneled walls and bookcases, and oak floors.  However, the room felt dark, depressing, and somewhat dated.  So...how do you brighten an old wood paneled room?  Here's what we did to breathe new life into this 1902 wood-paneled room without painting: 9 Ways to Modernize a Wood-Paneled Room 1) Update Window Treatments 2) Incorporate Modern ...

Pasadena Kitchen Showroom • Monogram Appliances Experience Center

We've partnered with Monogram Appliances and have created the ultimate kitchen design center in Pasadena.  Our showroom has all the best product one would want and need when designing a luxury kitchen, as we have partnered with the best lines in the business. We are proud of our new Pasadena kitchen showroom and hope that you'll stop by to experience the space in person.  Where else can you  gather inspiration from one of the top luxury kitchen designers in Pasadena?

A Collaboration with Monogram Appliances

During the process of designing our Pasadena kitchen showroom, we connected with Monogram Appliances.  What started out as a small break room for interior designers quickly morphed into not only a full scale showroom, but a signature Experience Center.  Our new Pasadena kitchen showroom includes two kitchens and a bar - a real kitchen design center with all the bells and whistles. The installation showcases 21 appliances from both the Signature and Minimalist Collections, rivaling the quality typically found only in showcase homes. We've designed kitchens for the Pasadena Showcase House on two occasions. In 2022  we designed the kitchen and butler's pantry for the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House utilizing Monogram Appliances exclusively.

Opportunity for Designers in our Pasadena Kitchen Showroom

The designer can now educate their clients on the types of amenities that should be seen in a luxury kitchen.  When you raise the bar and show the best of the best, suddenly what the client sees is what they want.  As much as we love to service Pasadena interior designers and the design trade, we're also open to the public.

Until now, there hasn't been a kitchen design center in Pasadena that focuses on the kitchen as a whole.  Of course there are several appliance showrooms in the area, but their main focus is appliances.  But in my opinion, everything else that goes into a kitchen is just as important.  The consumer must see the appliances in the full context of a residential space.  These additional layers play an equal or even greater role of speaking to our emotions and how we feel.

The Statement Kitchen

In the Statement Kitchen, we also saw the perfect opportunity  to bring in one of our favorite vendors, Thompson Traders to show their custom capabilities with their custom range hood program.  We took an existing hood from The Quintana Collection and modified the 48" wide hood to accommodate our whopping 88" span.  The Quintana Collections happens to be designed by my friend, Greensboro, NC designer Kara Cox, and because of that I am even more thrilled.  This goes to show that by collaborating we can all elevate one another.  Thompson Traders has been an invaluable resource for our own kitchen projects.  With the new showroom we can now assist the trade and public with specifications and putting together their orders.  We also recently used one of their hoods in our kitchen for the 2022 Pasadena Showcase House.

The Minimalist Kitchen

We dialed it up a notch with our Minimalist Kitchen for our luxury kitchen design center in Pasadena.  It features walnut and satin black lacquered panels mixed with blackened steel base cabinets.  To offset the masculine vibe, we added an element of glam with the custom polished/burnished brass hardware. The styling and details have a sexy, organic modern vibe.  My friend, Austin designer Patrick Landrum described it as a "Modern Speakeasy" and I kind of like that description.
Behind the custom panels are the Monogram Appliances 24" column refrigerator and freezer.  In addition, we have the Minimalist steam oven, the Five in One Wall Oven, a Single Wall Oven, and the Alexa enabled Single Wall Oven on the opposite end.

The Bar

The bar is flanked with two integrated refrigeration units on each end.  On one end is the Monogram integrated Glass Front Refrigerator.  On the opposite end is the Fully Integrated Wine Sommelier. The Integrated Glass Front Refrigerator looks identical on the outside but on the inside has two temperature zones.  This way you can store both red and white wine in the upper compartment and in total holds up to 106 bottles of wine!  There is a freezer drawer in the middle that also makes ice. Down below is an ample convertible drawer which has the flexibility to set the temperature to your needs.  The bar is perfect for entertaining with everything you need at arm's reach and a pretty display up top.
